New Song's History in a Nutshell

New Song beagan as a ministry in June of 2002 when Pastors David and Marta Poling-Goldenne moved to the Coventry neighborhood of Anthem.  The site for New Song's church had been previously purchased by the sponsoring denomination (the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, ELCA) from the Del Webb Pulte developers and Pastor David was called to begin the congregation from the ground up.  Through the summer and fall months of 2002, Pastor David knocked on over 3,000 doors in Anthem and Seven Hills spreading the word about this new church start.  In January 2003, New Song began offering public worship services in the ballroom of the Sun City Anthem Center.  Each Sunday, two services were offered, a traditional and a contemporary praise service.  As the congregation grew, Bible studies, children's ministries, and music ministries were added, necessitating the move from a home casita office to a rented suite of offices on Eastern Avenue.  In September 2006, the congregation moved into its new building, a 10,000 square foot multi-use building, at the corner of Anthem Parkway and Reunion.  The congregation began offering three services on Sunday morning and expanded its weekly ministry offerings, eventually resulting in the full use of our site, seven days a week.  In 2009, New Song Christian Academy was opened.  As of 2015, there are four worship services offered each week, averaging over 300 in attendance, as wellas children and youth ministry offerings, small groups and Bible study opportunities, a music ministry program featuring choral music, praise music, contemporary music and a Performing Arts Academy, which offers music lessons to interested learners.

Foundation Texts

"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.  See I am doing a new thing!  Now it springs up; do you perceive it?  I am making a way in the desert and streams in the give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise." - Isaiah 41:18, 20

"Sing to the Lord a New Song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.  Sing to the Lord, praise His name; proclaim His salvation day after day.  Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous deeds among all people." - Psalm 9:1-3

About Our Logo

"I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry.  He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire;  He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.  He put a New Song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.  Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord." - Psalm 40: 1-3

Music is an expression of the heart and soul.  A song comes to our lips in those moments when life is good and we have moved to a place of awe and gratitude.  Music has the power to lift us up when we are down.  Singing with a group, playing in a band, or just simply singing along with the radio, CD or iTunes has a way of making us feel good and inspiring us for our daily walk!  When God touches a human heart, He puts a New Song on our lips.  At New Song, we believe God is about the process of lifting hearts and bringing new life!

The logo for New Song reflects this truth.  The imagery of music is found in the cross and treble clef, which leans forward to suggest evergy and vitality.  The mountains of Anthem-Seven Hills form a musical staff.  The colors of the staff form a rainbow, symbolizing the hope and promise of a new life ever since the time of Noah.  The rising sun behind the cross reminds us of the promise of life that comes with a new day.

The words "New Song" are chosen also to suggest the bridge between heritage and our contemporary reality.  Music and the arts are a signature ministry focus at New Song, where we believe we are about singing the "age old" faith in ways that are new, meaningful, and relevant for today's people.
